Embryo Donor Spotlight: Claire and John

Meet Claire and John, embryo donors extraordinaire! They have two boys, their second conceived through IVF, and 4 PGT-A tested embryos they are ready to donate. Claire and John epitomize what it means to be EM•POWERED donors, as they are most interested in helping another individual or couple who has felt the same struggle with infertility, and in connecting with recipients who are open to allowing all children to know each other. They are looking for recipients whose “priorities would be raising children who are kind and confident. And most importantly, free to be who they are!”

We wanted to get to know Claire and John beyond their donor profile and asked them to share a bit more about themselves and their decision to become embryo donors:

Tell us about yourself and your family, and your decision to donate your remaining embryos.

We have two beautiful boys who are more than we could have ever hoped for. Our fertility journey began when trying to conceive our second son, and having recurrent miscarriages. I have never felt as low and hopeless as I did then. Surprisingly, we were able to make many genetically normal embryos from one retrieval, and as soon as that happened and we knew we had extra - it wasn’t even a discussion, we both immediately agreed they would go to help another family who has felt that low, to help them also come out of it and hopefully give some of the joy our boys have given us.

What are you hoping for in a recipient(s), and what kind of relationship would you like to have between your family and your recipient family?

We are hoping for it to feel like extended family, especially for my sons. Ideally it would be like cousins, and additional ‘life partners’ for my boys if that makes sense. It’s also all new to us, so open to figuring out exactly how that would look in reality.

What are you most excited about being an embryo donor?

Just hoping to make someone else’s fertility journey a bit easier and sharing in our good fortune!
