Embryo Donor Spotlight: Angela and Rahul

Our group of EM•POWERED donors continues to grow! Here is a snapshot of one of our amazing donors, Angela and Rahul, who live in Australia, and have embryos stored in San Diego.

Tell us about yourself and your family, and your decision to donate your remaining embryos.

We are a family of four in Melbourne, Australia with our daughter (Malia, 5) born in 2019 via IVF (egg donor/Rahul) and our son (Bodhi, 2) born via surrogacy in Los Angeles, CA. We are happy and busy with two kids in our life and always felt we wanted to help others in their fertility journey like others have helped us in our enormously challenging journey to parenthood. Thanks to Gail Sexton Anderson at Donor Concierge who introduced us to EM•POWER, we now have the opportunity to help in a meaningful way.

What are you hoping for in a recipient(s), and what kind of relationship would you like to have between your family and your recipient family?

We are a warm-hearted and loving family that is open-minded, progressive & inclusive in our beliefs so open to all possibilities. We feel kinship with recipient(s) having gone through similar fertility struggles ourselves. In terms of a relationship between our family and the recipient family, we are a "global" family with Rahul's Indian background & Angela's English heritage. Melbourne is a multi-cultural city which we find amazing to be part of. Our kids are born via IVA/surrogacy in California. We are in regular contact with our son's GC and will be meeting them for the first time since Bodhi's birth when they visit us in Australia in Feb 2024. Angela and I are open to having ongoing contact/friendship/family ties with the recipient family but are also respectful of their desire to have a family life of their own.

What are you most excited about being an embryo donor?

Our 10 year journey full of high and low roller-coaster emotions before we had our first child and then the rich and rewarding experience of our shared surrogacy journey with our GC and her family means we truly appreciate the gift of children. To be able to help other couples or individuals by being an embryo donor is emotionally and spiritually satisfying for Angela & I. If there truly is six degrees of separation between all of us as humans, we are excited to help parenthood dreams come true for others and look forward to sharing some incredible bed-time stories with our two kids and hopefully one day with our grandkids.
